A message from Rev. Brack:

This church was one of the very first churches in the new settlement known as Weatherford, being organized in 1898 as the Methodist Episcopal Church. In the beginning, the young congregation met in the local school house. Later, in 1904, they began construction of their new church building, located at the corner of Custer and Franklin streets (where the Bank of Western Oklahoma is now located). The congregation decided to build a much larger, contemporary structure in 1963, where the present building sits. An addition was built in 1998.

Revitalizing congregations and developing new faith communities is really important to the future of The United Methodist Church. When Jesus gave the Great Commission, He told His followers, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.” That is the mission of the The United Methodist Church—to “make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.” We achieve this through vital congregations that equip and empower people to be disciples in their home congregations and in communities around the world.

So, what is a vital congregation? At Weatherford FUMC, we believe we model some of these five common characteristics of vital congregations:

*Inviting and inspiring worship

*Engaged disciples in mission and outreach

*Gifted, equipped and empowered lay leadership

*Effective, equipped and inspired clergy leadership

*Small groups that include children and youth designed to encourage, support, and hold disciples accountable in their Christian walk.

We invite you to join us in seeking to be an ever-vital Christian presence in Weatherford, living out of the strong Wesleyan heritage, which we embrace with passion. Open hearts—open minds—open doors . . . that’s the people of the United Methodist Church!
