2014 Red Rose Banquet Honors Five Graduates

May 23, 2014 by

On Wednesday evening, the church hosted its annual Red Rose Banquet to honor outstanding graduating seniors from the youth group.  The banquet was held in the Fellowship Hall and those attending enjoyed a catered fajita spread.  A slide show of pictures from over the many years of youth participation of the graduates being honored accompanied dinner.

Guests enjoy a slideshow as they eat dinner.

This year’s banquet honored five recent Weatherford High School graduates: Tiler Rose, Mark Clark, Austen Hunt, Reese McCraw, and Stephen Short.  Youth director Kelley Ramey spoke fondly about each of the five honorees and presented them with gifts.

Ramey gave each of the students an opportunity to speak and to offer “words of wisdom” to younger youth group participants in attendance.  Wisdom from the five included “go to everything you can (Rose),” “start your scholarship applications early – don’t wait until the last day (both Clark and McCraw),” “listen to whatever Kelley tells you (Hunt),” and “do as much as you can in youth – go on mission trips (Short).”

A final huddle

Several of these five recent grads will be attending SWOSU starting in the fall, so you might still see them around.

Kelley made it clear, though, that they will be dearly missed in the youth group.

Congratulations and good luck in your future endeavors, 2014 graduates!

Weatherford FUMC Social Media

Apr 23, 2014 by

Occasionally, established institutions such as churches have to play catch-up when it comes to new technologies and new forms of communication. Such is the state of things in 21st century America.

Clearly, social media and social networking are here to stay, even as they continue to evolve. That means it is time for us to adapt and play catch-up.

Step one is already in place. Did you know that FUMC already has a very active Facebook page? It does. If you haven’t visited and “Liked” it already, you really should. You can find it easily by clicking right here.

Step two is also in progress – it’s this website.

Step three takes us more in the “media” direction of social media. We have just created a YouTube channel. Soon (hopefully) we will start adding videos – Lynn’s sermons and other such things – to the channel and making the church more available and even interactive. Our YouTube channel is Weatherford FUMC, and you can find it by clicking here. Go ahead and drop by and subscribe so you’ll know when we start posting!

There is a step four in development. Step four will involve podcasting Lynn’s sermon’s and making them available for streaming or download anytime, anywhere in the world.  We may also include recordings of the choir, children’s choir, or handbells, too. Once we have the capability in place, our options for posting of audio and video will be nearly limitless.

There is one other thing, but it’s more of a goal than a step. That other thing is that within a few months, we hope to be able to live stream Sunday services online.  Stay tuned for news and details about that.

Our social media and social networking strategies are modest for now, but we think we can handle and use the avenues we choose well.  So for now, the church as a whole will NOT have a Twitter account (though the youth group does! @WeatherfordFUMCYouth) or an Instagram account. Our audience and our needs may dictate a change in that decision down the road, but for now we’re comfortable with what we have chosen.

Now, go forth and subscribe to/like/follow us!
